Welcome to “Navigating ICT in Teaching and Learning for Refugees and Migrants,” a course designed to address the pressing educational needs of migrant students in an increasingly digital world. As the European Commission prioritizes support for those affected by conflicts like the war in Ukraine, inclusive pedagogical approaches and work-based learning practices are more crucial than ever.

This course offers innovative learning approaches tailored specifically for teaching migrant students, along with practice-based training in Finland, a country facing real challenges in migrant integration. Our target audience includes school managers, vocational school teachers, educational policy experts, and advisors specializing in migrant issues. We also welcome teachers from all levels, including those in special education, as well as teacher trainers and educational counselors.

In alignment with the latest priorities, our course covers a wide array of topics essential for effective teaching and learning in diverse migrant contexts. From recognizing and validating competencies of newly-arrived migrants to individualizing learning paths, we delve into pedagogical approaches tailored to non-native speakers. Participants will explore innovative learning methods such as simulation with work machines, eLearning with mobile devices, and Camera-Pen pedagogy.

Practical strategies for supporting teaching and guiding migrants in their educational journey are emphasized, including the use of translator apps, creating e-materials for language learning, and delivering interactive language exercises. Through comparison of situations in Finland and participants’ home countries, we aim to foster understanding, promote diversity, and cultivate European values.

Our course methodology encourages active participation and collaboration. Participants will engage in lectures, hands-on workshops, and discussions to enhance their understanding and skills. They will also have the opportunity to create outputs such as learning diaries, blogs, and social media content, as well as produce recommendations for their own schools and networks.

Join us in “Navigating ICT in Teaching and Learning for Refugees and Migrants” to empower yourself with the knowledge and tools to make a meaningful impact on the education of migrant students in your community.
