Open School Visits
The most practical solution for individuals and small groups.
Helsinki metropolitan area, Finland
The concept of these school visits is as the name indicates, open for everyone. You can be an educational professional or a student, a business person or a tourist. The only requirement is that you are interested in Finnish education and eager to see how learning takes place in a normal classroom setting. During the visit you will have time to talk with Finnish teachers and ask about their teaching practices, methods or the challenges they face during their daily work. The visit also includes the Finnish school lunch – famous for being offered to every student for free.
“I have truly learned a lot and enjoyed the school visits.” – Bayarsaikhan Anar, Mongolia
“The guide and staff at the host school were very welcoming and friendly. I enjoyed being among these passionate educators and the opportunity to gain some insight into the Finnish education system.” – Carey Stewart, Australia
The schools that we visit are typically primary schools, which contain grades 1-6 and have students between the ages of 7 and 12. However, some of the schools we visit offer preschool education as well (pre-primary education for children who are 6 years old.) Others are comprehensive schools, meaning they contain a primary school as well as a lower secondary school (middle school or junior high, with students in grades 7-9 and between the ages of 13 and 15). If your interest is only in visiting preschool or middle school classes, please ask us about the possibility to visit those before registration.
“The most interesting thing about Finnish school is the respect and love relationship between teacher and students. I could see education goes well based on them.”
– Yousung Lee, from the Republic of Korea, Open School Visit participant 2019.
